She is a member of The Association of Pet Dog Trainers, an evaluator for AKC/CGC and President of the Wisconsin Groomers Association. Katie has had a love for dogs since she was a kid. She started by getting involved in 4H dog training with her dog Rusty. Through the years she has learned a lot about animals by graduating from the Wisconsin School of Professional Pet Grooming and pursuing a career in this field. Todd and Katie were previous owners of a successful pet grooming, dog daycare and retail business. Through the use of classical and operant conditioning, Katie has trained her five Golden Retrievers. She has developed three dog therapy programs with Mickey (13 years old). Winnie (11 year old) is retired from agility. Baloo (6 year old) has competed in dock dogs, agility and obedience, has appeared on dog food labels, and starred on the television show “Great Train Kids”. Rella (5 year old) and Stitch (4 year old) are currently competing in agility. Katie shows them in both AKC and USDAA and has earned titles at the excellent/masters level. With the use of positive and motivational training, Katie has been successful in training puppies and adult dogs for general manners, competitive agility, obedience, and therapy certification. At Think Pawsitive, all students are taught to reward their dogs for offering desired behaviors. The focus is on using positive reinforcement and lateral thinking to come up with training solutions. |
